Character Design

This is a copy of our character design sheet, where we put make-up onto Emma as she could be a possible character in our final piece.

Assessment Prep Sheets

Above are our planning sheets for the assessment shoot. There is a shot list and a storyboard.

EVALUATION

AS Media Studies
Holly Beavon

Camera.

Our completed work of our horror clip that was based on the sub genre, psychological included certain shots such as a steady shot to film scenery such as the birds and shots were focus needs to be included so that the audience know exactly what is happening. We also managed to film many shots appropriately so we didn’t cut of the actors head for example. In our assessment we used a variety of shots such as extreme long shots to film the man in the distant, walking. We took a selection of mid shots to film certain surroundings that ere vital to our clip such as the necklace being thrown in the river and the build up of the unknown man.

Use of editing.

After editing our work the shots eventually worked together to produce a clip that was able to flow and it looked as if those certain shots were supposed to be played then. We felt as if we didn’t need to use and editing transitions to our final piece.

Selection of Content.

Our finished work shows to the audience that we are able to use certain costumes, make-up and props in the appropriate places. Also we have proved that we an use a variety of locations and they are useful because they come across to the audience in the correct way. They also manage to fit in with our film genre due to it having the effect of making the clip that little bit scarier. The actor that was chosen for our clip clearly knew what she needed to do and because of this our film was a success.

Self- Assessment.

My contribution to the clip. I helped out by planning specifically what shots I would film and how I would do these. I took a variety of shots when I filmed and decided which one was the best outcome and looked more realistic. In total I filmed four clips and they all turned out to be productive. The four shots all differed from one another; I filmed a close up of the actors face, a panning mid shot of the actor walking back to the rail, a long shot of the necklace being thrown into the river and then the final shot was of the bird this was a cantered close up which brought a real effect to the clip. If I could think of any improvements that could be applied to the film I would suggest adding certain editing transitions so that the clip may have delivered to the audience as being scarier than it was. If we had done this then I think it would have made the audience more likely to continue watching the rest of the clip. When producing our final coursework film, I think I would take all the shots more than once so that you have a variety of final clips and also this would affect the lighting so therefore you could pick which looks best. Overall though I think that our final clip was a success as what we planned to do worked.

Recee Sheet 1

Above is a recee sheet that we completed when looking for our first potential location for our horror film. We looked at the accessibility and possible issues with the location.

Assessment Re-Make

Above is a copy of our 40 second re-make of 'Pendant' by one of last years AS Level groups.
Overall, I think that our remake was very close. We included all of the shots and they match really well.
We had some problems in terms of the location as the bench used in the previous film was no longer there. This therefore meant that we had to alter the shot through the bushes, and film from above instead.
Also, there was another group of students filming in the same location, so we had to work around them.
Another issue we had was lighting. We began filming at 5pm and by 6pm the shots were significantly darker.

Assessment - Recreating Horror Sequence

Our task for our first assessment is to do a shot for shot remake of a section of a previous AS Level students work.
The section will be approximately 40 seconds long and we will be filming the section 0:40 until 1:23.
The title of the film is "Pendant" and is in our chosen sub-genre of psychological horror.

Composition Exercise Evaluation

In our sequence there were some issues with continuity, for example, when the character looks at her watch, the watch is facing the wrong way and there is no shot of her moving her wrist to look at it.

We followed our storyboard and kept the shots framed properly and also included all of the shots from our plan.

In terms of the pace of the piece, there are a few shots that are particularly jumpy, especially the transition between the penultimate and final shot.

Our piece could be improved by making sure each shot is focused before it is filmed as well as improving the continuity.

Composition Exercise

This is our next filming exercise where we focused on composition and splitting the frame into 9 squares.

Continuity Project

Hello,
This was our second round of filming.
The aim of this task was to keep continuity throughout the shoot.
Here is a copy of our video, enjoy :)

Evaluation
We feel that we managed to keep continuity throughout the shoot and keeping the sequence as realistic as possible. For example, we made sure that the same foot was on the top step every time we shot. Also, we tried to make the transition between looking at the watch and turning away as smooth as possible. We need to make sure that we focus the camera for each new shot, rather than just once at the start. We included all 9 of shots set out on the task sheet.

Stalker Sequence Evaluation

We feel that for our first real go with the cameras, we managed to produce some good shots.
We managed to get a good range of shots such as close ups, point of view shots and an over the shoulder shot, as well as using high and low angles.

Unfortunately we struggled getting used to the editing equipment on iMovie, but can improved with more practice. A part issue with lesson time also meant we were unable to finish the sequence fully, but with more time we think we can produce a soothly edited film.

Stalker Sequence

This is our first go at filming!
We filmed a stalker sequence that lasted a couple of minutes, this is our UNfinished project.
Enjoy :)

Welcome :)

Hey guys,
This is our blog about our media project.
We're going to produce a 2 or 3 minute intro to a horror film.
We will post our testing projects and further developments soon! :)
